SAFERjobs is a joint industry and law enforcement non-profit organisation campaigning against job-related fraud. We work to advise and support job seekers who fall victim to job scams, but we also aim to support employers on how to protect themselves against employment fraud, from application fraud through to insider theft. On this page you can learn all about protecting your business from fraud.

Partnering with SAFERjobs

To join SAFERjobs and have your organisation promoted to millions of job seekers and to UK Government is simple. All you have to do is make contact with us via this website to confirm you agree to the principles of good recruitment practice for job boards or recruitment companies, place the Metropolitan Police positive text about safe job searching on your website, and (for recruitment companies) promote awareness of SAFERjobs to job seekers and agency staff through your own material. Once you confirm this we will give permission to use the SAFERjobs logo and add your organisation to those already supporting SAFERjobs on our home page.

SAFERjobs Principles of Good Practice

Job boards should:

  1. explain how vacancies appear on their site;
  2. perform agreed standards of due diligence;
  3. have a limit as to how many times the same advert can be published;
  4. not advertise adverts that portray themselves to be something they are not;
  5. not use the CV Database as a sales commodity;
  6. obtain candidate's permission before transferring their data;
  7. have a process in place to investigate breaches;
  8. have an easily accessible area of the site dedicated to offering advice of common and prevalent scams with a link to SAFERjobs;
  9. carry the agreed SAFERjobs text;
  10. have a duty to report and share information with SAFERjobs.

Recruitment Companies should:

  1. meet the requirements of the Employment Agency legislation;
  2. perform agreed standards of agency staff compliance upfront and meet any requisite legislation ongoing relevant to the sector;
  3. only advertise jobs that do exist and the agency has permission to advertise;
  4. treat job seeker information confidentially and only share with express consent;
  5. pay job seekers promptly and correctly within openly agreed timescales and be upfront about any charges to job seekers;
  6. actively support working with under-represented job seekers such as people with convictions, disabled groups, ex-military personnel, and ethnic minorities;
  7. have an agreed, transparent process in place to investigate job seeker complaints quickly and professionally;
  8. supply in writing clear and full information to the job seeker about the work assignment;
  9. have an easily accessible area of the site dedicated to offering advice of common and prevalent scams with the agreed SAFERjobs text and link;
  10. have a duty to report and share information about fraud with SAFERjobs.

Recruiters Against Illegal Labour (RAIL)


An important SAFERjobs campaign is aimed at ensuring the recruitment industry plays a positive role in helping the government to clamp down on illegal working.
 
The recruitment industry is uniquely placed to help support government initiatives cracking down on illegal working because recruiters will encounter individuals searching for a job in the UK. Through the recruiter’s already strenuous vetting processes they will, from time to time, encounter people without correct right to work in the UK. The link below can be used to report suspected illegal employment and prevent job seekers without the right permission to work moving on to other recruitment organisations.
 
Through your recruitment company’s registration process, if you think someone is living or working in the UK illegally then you can report it to the Home Office via the link below. You don’t have to give your name and address and any information that you provide will be treated as strictly confidential.
